Yes it is........Kirby's ability to copy ANY brawler's special move already makes him overly complex.

Kirby can eat the item. We already know that. However, if he could actually use the item that was thrown at him, that would be overkill.

(No offense, it is a good idea but I doubt Nintendo will approve)
