'Course it's random, but by havin' tons of traded Pokemon with different IDs your odds will be increased dramatically. I win 3rd prize almost every day, with 4th prize bein' extremely uncommon, 2nd prize bein' more common than that.
I only get different IDs by Wonder Trading but it's usually unwanted pokemon so I release them. Does that still count as having them? I doubt it.

On another note, I tried a Free Battle in the Battle Spot thing and people were using teams of Legends, aren't those banned? I know certain items are, as well as duplicates. I'm probably getting the rules confused again.

Nope. You have to keep the Pokemon, which really takes up unnecessary space in your PC...
I've never tried it, but I watched my friend do it once.
In the first battle, they encountered Moltres and Zapdos. Some legendaries might be banned, others not. What did you see in your opponent's team?

With the advent of that there Fancy pattern Vivillon event, I began collectin' Vivillon patterns a few days ago. Only three away from completin' the set... though I'm excludin' Pokeball from the collection, since it's (foreign) event-only and I'd have t' scour the internet for that. no thanks too much effort

Game Freak very well knows that legendaries with a Base Stat Total of 600 or less ain't overpowered, and thus doesn't ban 'em. This is because there're multiple species of non-legendary Pokemon with that very same BST; Pokemon that are typically even better than said legendaries, since they have access to egg moves. <3 tyranitar
Though there's an exception for event-only legendaries, like Celebi or Genesect, whom are all banned. Can't say I understand the logic behind that... if a Pokemon is so rare you ain't allowed t' trade it on GTS, why not let trainers show off such prestigious Pokemon in battle? 'Specially when legendaries of equal strength are already allowed en masse.

You get like 930 slots (31x30 boxes/slots), +6 for Battle Box, +6 for Party, +1 for the old man (Lv5- only), +2 for Daycare. I don't have Bank. Though 930+ seems like a lot, and it is, I'd like to have one of every poke. And that's like 720 already, not to mention alternative forms. Keeping competitive, shinies, and breeding poke adds even more... Well I'm starting over soon, so I got room then lol

I was in Free Battle... but still. Very harsh against people that don't have a means of getting them. It just infuriates me.

Did the secret bases have a function before? I remember stumbling upon some in my Emerald days. I have no idea what they were/are for.

And any sane person would've taken their Pokemon back from that old man and out of the Day Care when they're not breeding. Not that I'm sane or anything.
Holy ****, those are definitely some Uber-ton legendaries. Maybe they aren't banned in Free Battle only?

Yeah, people ya mix'd records with would have their secret base appear in your world, though you need t' find it. Once a day you can battle the team they had on 'em at the time of records bein' mixed.
Even if ya had no one to link cable up with IRL, secret bases was one'a the first forms of major customization ya had in the game (outside the Pokemon themselves). Which therefore made it cool.

Wouldn't put any poke that aren't mine in BBox. Party is a bit different.
Overall, I don't keep unwanted poke.
I leave my poke in Day-Care until I breed a few extra ones I wanted. Some unlucky trainer/breeder may need some help.
I wipe the floor with untrained Legends, but when people know how to play them, I'm outta luck.
Time to free some o' the caged animals. Or give them to others.
By the time Emerald came out, I moved to the US and knew no one.
I guess, but friends...
And unfortunately, I may be skipping this game.
