I've got a feeling that the bulbs will have something to do with how much damage that the Pikmin individually did during that certain life. It's kind of a random guess, but if you look at all of the different colored Pikmin, they all have different levels of leafs/buds/flowers.

But, in the actual Pikmin game, the higher leveled flower you are, the higher the Pikmin can be thrown and the more damage that they can do. (And it takes nectar to get to the next level)

So, they could follow something along those lines...

red-captain falcon
blue-zamus? maybe zelda from melee( one of the polygons had no dress + ponytail but same moves as zelda)
yellow=meteos
green=kirby

that's my theory

I've seen a lot of posts like this. No. Sakurai specifically says they aren't polygon-versions of the playable characters when he mentioned the one that looks like Kirby. Their designs could be based of random characters (ie yellow=meteos?) but their moves will be wire-frame status from my interpretation of it. Besides, it would be just like a stupid event match if they were just like the characters -_-
