Gunslingers Newsletter, Week of Jan. 30th, 2014

It has been awhile since we have shared a newsletter-style update in this recruiting thread. Let's change that! This installment will focus on highlights ripped directly from our Gunslinger Gazette, the blog where we publish community-minded updates and spotlights just for our fellow Gunslinger members.

Member Spotlight - Recently, we have sat down and taken the time to learn more about our long time GS friend, VykkDraygo. He originally was active in the clan way back 2008/2009, but has returned in full force by the end of 2013. Find out what he has been up to in the meantime, his Superbowl predictions, and his thoughts on how the Gunslingers have grown in the last few years!

The Gunslingers Group is Over 8,000 Members Strong; Friend Usergroups to the Rescue! - We are starting off 2014 with over 8,000 fellow older gamers as Gunslinger members, and we show no sign of slowing down! As awesome as that collective feat is, we aren't about the numbers. We are about getting mature, casual gamers the gaming experience they so desire. That is why the Gunslingers are increasing our efforts to get new members in-game with the rest of the clan. Thus, the Gunslingers Friend Usergroups are born! Now, any member who adds themselves to an usergroup that best reflects their category of gaming wants, will be sent notifications every ten days outlining all the newest members who have added themselves to Master Lists that are of those categories. When we say, 'More the merrier!," we meant it.

Gunslinger Games Awards Poll Close Soon; Game of the Year Category Added! - Existing and potential Gunslinger members alike, you only have one more day to cast your votes in twenty-one different Gunslinger Games Awards polls. It is an annual tradition at GS for members to come together and vote on their favorite games. Based on the votes already coming in these categories, a "Game of the Year" poll has been added. Be heard before it is too late! An article style awards show will be published in the Gunslinger Gazette in February.

Gunslingers Voice Chat Server - In case you missed it, Gunslingers has a registered Ventrilo voice chat server for any of our members who find other options, such as Skype, too resource heavy while gaming.

New Podcast Episode Published! - The Gunslinger Gaming Podcast returns with another episode last week. This episode, the ninth such episode, features Filoofo, Dunkaroo, Freddy, Tick, and McMurphy. We discuss the Best Sellers of 2013 among other recent gaming news. The podcast is available as a local download, on iTunes, and via Podomatic. You can even subscribe to our own custom made RSS feed just for the podcast!

B-B-Bulletholes! - Every year that a Gunslinger is a member of the clan, they are given a bullet hole attached to the GunslingerGaming Forum account. As part of the celebration for the most active members receiving such an anniversary marker, we give them a very public shout-out on a monthly basis in the Gunslinger Gazette!

Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of the Gunslingers Newsletter. These are only examples of the vast amount of activity taking place within the Gunslingers clan, and you are invited to join in on the fun. If you are parent and/or adult gamer looking for a group that focuses on keeping one's gaming experience fun, casual, and always within your own time restraints, you will find no clan more dedicated to that goal than the Gunslingers.

As previously mentioned, the Gunslingers clan got together and, throughout the entire month of January, cast our collective votes on what were our favorite gaming experiences in 2013. This is the fifth year for this tradition, and everyone is welcome to read the official results!

A sincere congratulations must be given for the following awards won that are most relevant to this recruiting thread:
Best Wii U Game of 2013: Super Mario 3D World
Best 3DS Game of 2013: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Favorite Games Released Before 1995: Mario Kart (SNES), Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES), and The Legend of Zelda (NES)

You can view the results of all twenty-two voting categories in the Gunslinger Gazette article: Gunslinger Gaming » Gunslinger Gazette ~ Issue #6 ~ 2013 GS Games Awards Results

If you are an older gamer that likes to keep your gaming experiences fun, uncomplicated, and more of a social fare rather that a competitive one, join the Gunslingers!

Time flies when you are having fun.

We have all heard that old saying, right? Sometimes, the truth hits home in unexpected ways. I have known some of the Gunslingers and have had enduring friendships with them for years. I have known them as they graduated college. When they tied the knot with their significant others. When they have had to put down the controller a bit more as new fathers. It is incredible to think how fast time can fly and how many great memories can be had when in a good, solid gaming group.

Clans get a bad reputation. Sometimes, it is well earned, right? The drama. The competitive angst. The sense that you are valued more for how much you can take orders than your willingness to share in a good laugh during rounds of frosty pints.

The Gunslingers is a clan for mature, casual gamers. We are about knocking a few back while gaming with new and old friends, alike. And you are invited to join in on the good cheer!

You turned in your time sheet and snuck out of the office early. That can only mean one thing...

...IT'S THE WEEKEND!!!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am sure happy to be able to kick back and relax. With the Shellslingers, it also means something else. FROSTY PINTS!

Crack open your favorite brew, stop by the GS* Chats and connect with fellow members for some drunken gaming fun. Going strong since 2008, Frosty Pints is a particularly great time for new members to meet other Gunslingers and to swap game contacts. Read more information on our weekend tradition here: http://www.gunslingergaming.com/html/frostypints.html

This round of Frosty Pints is a particularly noteworthy one.

First, we are debuting our forum section dedicated to such weekend hi-jinx. This is where members can post Meet & Greet get-togethers and other social ventures to help new and old members party together.

Second, we are poking some good natured fun with long time member and GS* Leader, MikeLaird. GS*Beagles, out of a random whim, opted to change his avatar to a Magnum PI era photo of Tom Selleck. MikeLaird gave him some playful ribbing for it, so, naturally, the whole affair has snowballed into a community-wide effort to swap regular avatars for ridiculous 1980s icons. See for yourself: http://www.gunslingergaming.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=354&t=17889

Leave the Stat calculating to other groups, and come join the clan that just wants to have some fun!

May 20th. The end of Wii online servers for all games. That's it. Like a zombie apocalypse, it is the end of days for our Wii faction. All our Friend Code lists will be closed. No more playing online together. That is a significant milestone for us. Back in 2008 when Sony pulled its online servers for the Playstation 2, we migrated our clan from Jak X to Mario Kart Wii. And expanded into the power house we are today. Let's take the time and celebrate an end of an era together!

Current and Potential New Members Are All Invited to The World War Wii Event!

World War Wii encompasses all Wii titles to which we all have collective access. At the time this is written, the following games are scheduled to be part of the event:

  • Call of Duty: Reflex
  • Conduit
  • Conduit 2
  • Dr. Mario Rx
  • Excitebike World Rally
  • Goldeneye 007
  • Mario Kart Wii
  • Onslaught
  • Tetris Party
  • Texas Hold 'em Tournament

Reply to this topic if you have any of these games.
Reply to this topic if you have additional Wii titles that you would like featured in World War Wii.

World War Wii begins May 1st. Exact match times will be posted closer to start date based on the responses to this topic.

PRIZES: Anyone who participates in any of the posted matches will receive the custom forum rank, Survivor of World War Wii with a fun icon attached as well. Likewise, winners of each game event will be given an icon and custom forum rank, Last [Name of game] Survivor Standing.

Keep checking back to see postings for finalized match times because you will need to reply to this topic with your Friend Code to be added to the event roster.

Good luck and don't let the following happen to you during World War Wii!

The countdown to the release of Mario Kart 8 is finally just around the corner, and the Shellslingers group---the longest running Mario Kart clan exclusively for parent and hard working adult gamers---is already keeping busy with providing several features specifically geared towards the Wii U even before the game hits the retail shelves! Take a look at the following updates that all members are privy to regardless if you sign up down the road or have been with us for some time.

Mario Kart Wii Goodbye Event - We have been playing Mario Kart Wii since it launch way back in 2008, and we tipped our hat to all the fond memories of playing together on the very last Friday that the Nintendo Wii will have online servers by holding a World War Wii Event. The Shellslinger members that ended up on the podium at the end of the event were GS*Cher, GS*Freddy, and GS*Miiagi. Cher, as the first place winner, will receive an extra special custom forum rank, yet all members who participated are receiving custom ranks as well.

GS*Nester provided a live stream of the entire event, and you watch a recording of this stream at the following URL: http://www.twitch.tv/n_squared/b/529440089 . Snapshots by me and videos of a few of the "after party" world wide races by GS*Balki can be viewed in our forum's topic about the event: http://www.gunslingergaming.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18532 . Thank you for the great memories. Mario Kart Wii is dead; Long live Mario Kart 8!

Mario Kart 8 Stats Calculator / Combination Builder - We set a milestone by publishing the first dynamic feature that allows Mario Kart 8 players to create different Character/Kart/Tire/Glider combinations and compare it against other combos. Our members are already using it quite often, and you are welcome to try it out for yourself: http://www.gunslingergaming.com/html/MK8Stats.php

Koopalings Animated Smilies and Custom MK8 BBCode - We know we are going to talk about Mario Kart 8 in our clan's forum. A lot. That is why we are already having a little fun with installing some new ways to enhance our discussions. First, all seven of the Koopalings can be have an animated presence in your posts simply by typing ":[the Koopaling name]:." Second, you can readily call up MK8 images by using our new "[mk8][/mk8]" tags. Just type the character's or cup's name between the tags, and it will appear!

Examples:

Keep checking back because these additions are merely building blocks on grander forum features we have planned!

Get your Mii Face On! - We proudly offer our members a feature that no other clan (yet) offers. Each Shellslinger member can receive their one forum plug-in that shows off a dynamic version of the the Mii attached to their NNID. We give you your own BBCode (i.e.: [yourname][/yourname]) to use in your posts and signatures. Type the expression you want to use between your tags (for example: happy), and that is the expression your Mii will show. Since the information is being pulled directly from Nintendo, your Mii will instantly change on our forums if you change it on your Wii U. See examples of what I mean and request your own Mii plug-in here: http://www.gunslingergaming.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14726

Thank you for reading some of the member perks we have rolled out even before Mario Kart 8 is released. If you are looking for a group of older gamers who also value your wish to make your MK8 experience about getting together with friends, sharing some laughs, and burning some mushroom rubber, than you are invited to join the Shellslingers! Visit us. Register in our clan's forum. Let the good times roll.

Can you believe we are mere days (heck, hours, really) away from the launch of the Nintendo Switch?

I don't know about you, but I already have my Switch ID registered (McMurphy78), games pre-ordered, & will be picking up my reserved Switch console at a midnight launch event. If you are like me and even some of that above applies to you, you are already like my fellow Shellslingers. A large, large majority of our Nintendo faction will be playing the Switch at launch and have reserves for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You better believe we will be battling it out on THAT game's launch as well.

Whether you prefer to label yourself as an older gamer, a parent, or an adult, you are invited to join the Shellslingers: the longest running active clan exclusively for Nintendo fans long in the tooth!

Here are some of our Switch related features to consider should you be tempted to join:
  • The Shellslingers still meet every single week for Frosty Pint races, and will seamlessly transfer over to the Deluxe edition when it is released.
  • We will update our MK8 Stats Generator (the #1 result on Google!) to include new characters or any other updates in balancing.
  • We have a GS Game Library feature to help you let others know what Switch games you own and are playing.
  • Our GS Game Library feature will also allow you to show off your Amiibo collection (coming soon!).
  • Join a clan that has been gaming online together since the Wii's launch!
Either way, we will see you on the Switch.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Clan for Adults.
The Splatoon 2 Clan for Adults.
The FAST rmx Clan for Adults.
The Super Bomberman R Clan for Adults.
The Nintendo Switch Clan for Adults.

(Yes, we have confirmed day-one members for all of the above titles.)
