why in the world...

finding 25 dell laptops still on the shelf, in my book, is a pretty good indication of not being popular. i mean, that's why they discount last season's clothlines, right? cuz no one is buying them and they're still on the shelf?

well like i said, most businesses do not put everything on the shelf. Its actually cheaper for a business to buy in larger quantities and only keep a few out on the floor at any given time. Why would a business buy so many if was not a popular product? they wouldnt. The more they buy means they know it is in high demand and usually try to stay one step ahead of the consumer.

Now, in the case of the PS3 and wii, they dont buy them in larger quantities. I would think a product is less popular based on the number of units the store purchases.

Does this make sense.. The ps3 is not purchased in high quantities because of this reason. It sells a lot slower because at the moment the demand for the ps3 is low. Therefore seeing few PS3s carried by a business is a bad sign compared to them buying a lot in bulk.

At the moment the wii is CHEAP and highly marketable + accessable. This means stores will try to buy up as many as possible to sell. Its the exact same method you see ebayers use, when they camp some stores and purchase as many wiis as they can get, often 5-10 and resell them for more.

Im just saying his logic was off and not realistic. Debate all you want though.

Shift i think you misunderstood what he said lmao

Well, if they see a PS3 in a shop, they wouldn't exactly think "must be pretty popular" when they see it accompanied by 25 other PS3's

He is trying to say if i'm not mistaken. He is trying to say that not because there are 25 ps3's in a shop. That doen't mean people will say it must be pretty popular. So from what i can gather. He is saying that not because something has a huge quantity on the shelf, doesn't mean people will say it is popular.

But hey we could wait to hear from him. But i honestly think you misunderstood what he said. No offense taking shift

Well, thanks for the back-up... I think. I really couldn't understand what you said...

Well, what I meant was something like this: If you walk into a store and see a product you remember the ad for, you might think it was popular. But if you see it grouped with a lot of other ones, why would you think it's popular? I would think something is popular if it's the last one left on the shelf, not if there are many more with it.

LoL. I often have trouble understanding potato sometimes too.

Anyways, no one was attacking you, hotpotato might have made it sound that way, (unsuprisingly). I just wanted to clairify why that reasoning was a tad unrealistic. I am not disagreeing that the PS3 is in low demand right now, but the over all senario of seeing more in stock = less popularity is not quite correct. Its actually the other way around. But no worries.

ADD:

I think the best ps3 advertisement to date is this one by far.

The best nintendo one would have to be this:

Yes but which one keeps your attention more? The Nintendo one is Fast, action packed and Keeps your attention pretty well.
While the Sony one sounds like an infomercial & just keeps babbling on...... Plus the Nintendo one has been played countless times while I've never seen the PS3 one EVER.

Those are not normal adverts =). The PS3 one is 4 minutes long, thats some expensive air time. I just picked the most entertaining ones in my opinion.

Also I have seen more ps3 commercials than wii commercials, but both do not rely heavily on them. The ps3 tends to have more billboards while the wii has magazine ads, though the wii doesnt need to advertise because the word of mouth advertising is already very strong.

I believe Sony will have a new marketing campaign once e3 07 is done with and its seeds start to grow. By seeds i mean its exclusives, Home and overall planned content that is still in developement.

PS: you will also notice that most nintendo commercials puts a focus on children. Which is why i get bored with them faster. Nintendos logic, and i think its good sort of, is that if you market towards children, they will grow up and stay a fan while marketing to the next wave of children. Look at the 80s commercials, they all target small kids, those kids grow up and stay with ninty while ninty continues grabbing the young ones. With the wii they are straying a bit from this, but not enough to give up on the kid advertising all together.

So there is going to be an e3 right?

yes but its going to be downgraded. To be honest, at first they were going to drop it all together, but i believe this is only temporary.

"Although the ESA calls this an "evolution" of the show, I am sure many gamers will be crying foul. The fact is, we don't know exactly what E3 2007 will be yet — that remains to be seen. So lets just wait until we hear more info from the ESA. Who knows, it might get more accomplished with less fluff than ever before."

Some third party developers will appear at E3 07 showcasing their work for the PS3.

But Sony will be holding their own thing before and after E3 07. I am not sure what nintendo is doing as they both were angry about last years E3 and dropped out.

........E3 is starting to die...... With no fanbase at E3 this year it wont be as popular or as highly watched/talked about...... I highly doubt E3 will help Sony Whatsoever.... Their home really isnt anything special. If you read their press release or watch the video. All furniture/accesories will cost REAL Money...... MMORPGs popularity are starting to die down. It can be seen with the decline of users on WoW & Second Life. (Second Life has other reasons for losing users though) With the ability to go online with all new systems MMORPGs really have outlasted their stay.

1. The future of E3 is really unknown at this point. You really cant say that.
2. Home is special. Its a genius idea that promotes secondary revinue and a need to buy the games instead of pirate them. Im sorry you cant understand its amazing potential for both businesses and consumers alike.
3. No, not all the furniture will cost money. The premium content will. But you are also awarded online content, clothes, furniture..ect when you buy and register a game or achieve a feat. Its incentives to purchase games and play them. I see nothing wrong with buying something like FF13 and then logging into HOME and finding out i have been given a FF tshirt and some furniture..ect.
4. MMORPGs are not in decline.. are you crazy? they are more popular than ever. LOL. Im sorry but i cant believe you truely believe that. I must ask.. are you that unrealistic?

Again, i cannot believe you just said MMORPGs are less popular now. LOL. Im shocked. Absolutely amazed that you believe that. Thats worse than someone coming up and saying "yeah.. air is totally not popular right now. In fact no one likes air anymore, its time is over. In fact, my guess is breathing will be outdated in a year or two."
lol

The MMORPGs on computers like Wow & Second are declining users. Second Life lost quite alot of users but like I said technically it wasn't from loss of popularity it was from The 2 Nuclear Bombs hacked into the game....... But WoW is starting to lose users cause they either dont have enough time on their hands (With Working, etc) & they dont got the money to play monthly fees......
