what if you can use the ds as a communication device for brawl? what i mean is while you're playing a match with a registered friend you can chat or send messages via DS?
or wait a second...what if they used the DS as another type of control...specific for registered friend matches?
the mic could be used for chatting between/during matches. the screens could be used to organize matches with registered friends via lobbys.

But in order to do this, you;d need to use the ds as a controller so you can at least be close enough to use the mic during matches.
That would be the reason behind the "only registered friends" rule. So the kiddies are still safe and we get our long overdue voice chat feature.
Plus it would boost DS sales.
-Voice chat:Hardcore Gamers are Happy
-"registered friends only" stipulation, making it harder for weirdos to stalk the youth via wii: Parents are Happy
-Sudden massive increased sales of DS systems and headsets:Ninteondo is Happy
We could all benefit from that situation.

I know but, its the most logical way we'd ever get vice chat into a game any time soon.
And seeing as how online matches will play a big role in this game, you'd think that they would try and find a way for us to communicate with each other somehow.
I mean releasing a headset for Brawl would be great; but to do it without any public announcements? Unlikely.
If it was going to happen they would have advertised the **** out of it to all the magazine publishers, g4, and so on. Because they need to get out of this "wii's oly for kiddies and non-gamers" stereotype, and the headset would surely help prove they are "serious" about the online gaming market. (although we already know this.)
So the only way they could possibly sneak it into the game without causing an uproar would be to use the DS. True it would be awkward. But they did say that they needed to break some serious ground as far as taking the wii online and this would be the prime game to do it.
Just think of using the system for Animal Crossing Wii...being able to use your DS version to upload specific content into your game. And as a bonus allowing you to communicate with others.
Yeah I know i f they used the DS as a mic for their games it would be forcing yu to own one in order to enjoy the games fully. (kind of like what they did with Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicles and the GBA >_<)
