I felt the same way when Sonic was announced. I don't like Sonic. :\

My friend got a weird, but cool idea.
How about create-a-classic mode type thing. Set up 12 stages with each stage having a specific mode like: stadium(targets lotsa man brawl, etc.) , brawl(1v1 1v2 2v2 2v1 1v3 3v1), and boss(last stage stage 13). Customizing boss lets you pick a subspace boss to put at the end, a huge powerful Giga Bowser or DK, Master Hand and or Crazy Hand.
Customization of each stage could be picking the char to fight in the Brawl stages(standard), all except boss and stadiums would let you pick a stage including a stage you make. All of the stages could let you select any music from the My Music section. And there would be a univeral difficulty selection too. Like Very Hard would have the strongest guys, the hardest boss and hard stadium games(Cruel Melee equivalent).
When you make it you could send it to friends and to Nintendo to distribute all over the world.

right-click it, go to properties, and it gives you the url to the picture
