That never happened to me when my opponent got mew or celebi

No they didn't. They simply gave you end-of-match bonus points (which are useless).

I suppose gifts will work better. Sounds good.

EDIT: i do not think there will be a character update at all this week. i think itll be all mediocre updates then a slightly less mediocre update on thursday or friday.
